Blower Door Testing

  • Do you have condensation on your windows or floors?
  • Do you have hot or cold rooms?
  • Does your upstairs have trouble keeping cool?
  • Are you always dusting and cleaning your home?

Blower Door and Healthy Home Diagnostics Testing has been around for some time now but is just becoming popular with the public due to higher energy cost and efficiency awareness. The way the test works is we temporarily install a mechanical blower in an entry way to the residence or business. By using the blower we can create a condition similar to 5 mile an hour wind blowing on the exterior of the building. Then by using a series of other diagnostic tools we can determine the efficiency of the home, as well as, pin-pointing the problem areas. Upon completion we leave you with a computer print out that explains any problem areas you may have and the proper procedures to repair them. Included in the printout will be an overall efficiency rating of the home and all of the technical information.

Do you need it??

If you have any of the problems listed above they can most likely be resolved by using Healthy Home Diagnostics. The most critical testing is when making a decision on buying a new comfort system. If you do not test your home and duct system first you may not get what you pay for.

For example: If you buy a 16 S.E.E.R. high efficiency heat pump but do not test and address the duct leaking problems, you could end up with as little as an 8 S.E.E.R. system even though you paid for 16 S.E.E.R. At Earl Gray & Sons, Inc. our recommendation is that everyone have their home or business tested at least once, especially in today’s times of soaring utility cost.

Below are just a few of the problem areas Earl Gray & Sons, Inc. has been able to locate and subsequently repair by using the diagnostics equipment. Could any of these be your home or business?

  • No Flue Damper
  • No air barrier to attic
  • 90% of can lights leak
  • No wall insulation behind or under shower enclosure
  • No installation or unsealed attic access can be a major source of infiltration
  • Unsealed can lights leak from the attic

At Earl Gray & Sons, Inc. we have a majority of the modern diagnostics equipment available enabling us to test everything from humidity level, air flow, ventilation, to carbon monoxide or gas leaks. Feel free to contact us about any indoor air quality problem you might be experiencing. Earl Gray & Sons, Inc. will be glad to help you or point you in the right direction.
